- Do you suffer from a psychological disorder such as depression or anxiety?
- Do you wish that you had a deeper, closer relationship with God?
- Have you had trouble trusting God or even feel anger at Him?
- Do you need healing and wish that someone who shares your Catholic faith could help?
It is very common to struggle with trust in God or to even have anger towards God because of deep psychological conflicts that have been left unattended. The modern world is getting further away from the one and only true God every day and spreading the lie that you can just pick and choose whatever religion that you want to follow as if faith is like some sort of buffet. If you have found the Truth or were even raised in the Catholic Church, you probably witnessed a lot of hypocrisy, and are seeing changes to the teachings in the Church that may make you question Truth even more. Confusion doesn’t come from God; it comes from Satan, but God allows it for our purification so that we can choose to respond to His grace and grow in love.
SPIRITUAL COUNSELING FOR LIVING A HOLY LIFESTYLE AND TREATMENT OF PSYCHOLOGICAL DISORDERS
Spiritual counseling seeks to guide a person in ways that bring him or her closer to living a holy lifestyle. In spiritual counseling you learn to surrender yourself to total trust in God so that, no matter, what afflicts you, you can bring the pain before God and ask for the strength and courage to deal, in imitation of Christ, with what needs to be done in any moment.
Many people find it difficult to make a total surrender to God, however, because of deep psychological conflicts, which produce psychiatric symptoms and disorders. So, for all practical purposes, when I provide spiritual counseling, I use many of the same techniques that I use in psychotherapy to help you understand and overcome the fear that is an obstacle to the spiritual purgation necessary for living a holy lifestyle. The fundamental difference is that I also advise my clients to follow spiritual counsels, which include prayer, fasting, and a sincere study of the Catholic faith.
ALTHOUGH YOU MAY SEE THE BENEFITS OF SPIRITUAL COUNSELING, YOU MAY STILL HAVE SOME QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS ABOUT THE PROCESS…
I don’t have the time for spiritual counsels. How can I get closer to God?
Many people have more time than they think to follow spiritual counsels. As in every service that I provide, I personalize it based on your individualized needs. If you follow all of the spiritual counsels, your healing will be less complicated, it will take less time, and it will cost you less than if you don’t follow all of them.
It will help for you to note the things that you object to and it is important to talk about it because this can give you a clue as to the unconscious defenses working under the surface of your conscious beliefs about yourself as well as how much rely on what the world says, rather than what the tradition of the Catholic Church has taught according to Christ.
Many spiritual directors don’t charge for their services. What makes you different?
Priests, nuns, and even some lay volunteers within the Catholic Church are able to provide their limited spiritual direction because they are supplemented by the generosity of others. I am in private practice and do not have any supporting donors. Additionally, many other spiritual directors, lack the psychological training and insight that I can provide. Life is a journey and learning to understand God’s will is a process of discovery that requires psychological scrutiny and being disciplined in following spiritual counsels as you surrender to God, with all of your mind, heart, and soul.
